Theroux's new novel to be discussed
The Lower River by Paul Theroux will be discussed at the Aug. 14 meeting of the book club.
The central character in Theroux’s latest novel, according to a New York Times review, is an American named Ellis Hock who decides to return to Africa after an absence of almost 40 years. Life in his own country has become tiresome and frustrating, but there’s a village in Malawi where, during his Peace Corps days, Hock had once been happy and useful. He wants to be useful again
