Poems for the nation

Here's a chance to praise your favorite U.S. Poet Laureate

The book club will celebrate Poetry Month by taking a look at poets who tried to raise the level of appreciation for poetry in the United States. Those would be ones who held the title of U.S. Poet Laureate, established by Congress in 1985 or, before then, the poets who served as consultants to the Library of Congress.

Club members will each choose a poet who served as poet laureate or consultant, give some biographical information about that person and read one or two of his or her poems. For a list of these poets, try this Wikipedia website. Bring 10 copies of the poems you select.

Barbara Drushell will host the April 9 event at her home in Davis. It begins at 7 p.m.  Let her know if you plan to participate or need directions. Her email address is barbaradrushell@gmail.com.
