Renowned Sacramento artist will speak at club event

Gregory Kondos, one of Sacramento’s most famous artists and a painter known as a master of contemporary landscape art, will talk to club members May 20 as part of our new speakers series.

The event will be at 7 p.m.at the Iron Grill in Sacramento. Please RSVP as soon as possible to help us with food and seating arrangements.

Kondos is best known for his paintings of sites in California, from coastal areas and Napa vineyards to Yosemite and, especially, the Sacramento River. A retrospective of his work was featured at the Crocker Art Museum in 2013 and his work has been displayed at the Oakland Museum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.,  Yosemite Museum and many others.

The artist was born in 1923 and has lived in Sacramento since 1927. He received both a B.A. and M.A. in art from California State University, Sacramento, and taught at Sacramento City College for 27 years. He was the founder and director of the campus gallery. Kondos was elected to the National Academy of Design in New York and was featured in a PBS Special Program documentary, "A Passion for the Land.”
