Book Club: September 12th

Book Club to discuss The Girl at the Baggage Claim

For September's Book Club, the host has selected "The Girl at the Baggage Claim: Explaining the East-West Cluture Gap."

The author is a novelist, American-born to Chinese immigrant parents. She travels to and teaches in China, but lives in the US, actually in Cambridge, MA.  The book explores the concept of self which people in the East have compared to those in the West. Jen believes that understanding of self underlies the way we focus and remember; the way we talk, read and eat; and influences our ideas about architecture and space, innovation and branding as well as law, rehabilitation, religion and freedom.  She weaves many stories throughout the book and it should provide interesting material for  discussion.

The local Harvard Club book club, which has been in existence for ten years, normally meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm for a potluck dinner and to discuss a wide-ranging selection of books -- fiction, poetry, biography, history, etc. They always enjoy having other interested people attend and participate.

The Book Club will meet  this month at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 12th at Anatolian Table in Rocklin.

Please contact Ellaison Carroll for more information and to RSVP.
