Bird Watching at Cosumnes River Preserve

UPDATE:  It was a beautiful, crisp morning for birding.  Led by Steve Davis, club Vice-President, seventeen members, family and friends congregated to observe Sandhill cranes, tundra swans, egrets, Canada geese, ducks and other waterfowl .  Club member Randy Finley (AB '95) took some spectacular pictures of Sandhill cranes which can be seen here.  For pictures of the people who attended the event, click here.

Please join us on Saturday, December 10, at 9 a.m. (NEW TIME) weather permitting, as the Harvard Club of Sacramento visits the Consumnes River Preserve, one of Sacramento County's best habitat preserves and a premier local birdwatching spot. We'll meet at the Visitor Center, and then caravan to a nearby spot to see some of the area's most spectacular winter birding areas, with Sandhill cranes, swans, and Canada geese. Afterward, we'll return to the Visitor Center for lunch at the picnic grounds.  In addition to lunch, you may want to bring binoculars, a bird guide, and a camera.

The Cosumnes River Preserve is located off Interstate 5 between Sacramento and Stockton. From Sacramento, take Interstate 5 south to Twin Cities Road exit (marked with a binoculars sign for wildlife viewing), about midway between Stockton and Sacramento. Take Twin Cities Road exit and go east for exactly one mile, to the first stop sign. Turn right at the stop sign onto Franklin Boulevard and continue for 1.7 miles. The Visitor Center is located on the left side of Franklin Boulevard. Stay on Franklin Boulevard, and park in the parking lot just past the Visitor Center.  RSVP by contacting Steve Davis at
