Darrell Steinberg has been the mayor of Sacramento since December 13, 2016. He was elected in the June 2016 primary, receiving 59% of the votes -- despite facing seven opponents -- thereby avoiding a runoff in November. It was the most expensive campaign in city history.
Before becoming mayor, Darrell Steinberg represented Sacramento in the California State Senate from 2006-2014 and was President Pro Tem from 2008-2014. He served in the California State Assembly from 1998-2004 and was a member of the Sacramento City Council from 1992-1998. He is a graduate of UCLA and the UC Davis Law School.
